West Australian Robocup

Robotics Competition

Morley Senior High entered two teams in the 2016 Robocup Rescue competition which took place at the beginning of August.  The groups were required to program their robots to complete a series of unseen courses which included: following a track, negotiating obstacles and rescuing an object from a ‘chemical spill’.  As each new challenge was revealed, the teams had to work quickly to alter programs and make changes to robots.

Both teams made it through Friday’s elimination rounds, finishing in the top eight out of the 42 teams which entered the secondary school competition.  They faced the increasingly difficult scenarios during Saturday’s finals and, after a nail biting knock-out round, we finished in fifth and third positions, coming home with the bronze medals.

Special mention should be made of Aaron Ramilo and Teeng Leong of Year 10 for the effort they put in during the preparation for the competition, the help they offered the Year 9 team with the programming and for being able to keep thinking calmly while under pressure.

Well done!
